District-specific notes

Malkangiri is a Scheduled Area district under the Fifth Schedule: the ST and SC Development Department lists the undivided Koraput district, which now includes Malkangiri, among the districts fully covered. In Scheduled Areas, Regulation 2 of 1956 bars transfer of land by a Scheduled Tribe member to a non-tribal, so check the status of the land with the Tahasil before any purchase; see tribal land transfer rules and forest rights pattas.

Besides the court complex at Malkangiri, the judgeship has outlying courts at Motu (MV-79), Mathili and Kudumulguma. A Gram Nyayalaya for Korukonda sits at Malkangiri. See Gram Nyayalayas in Odisha.

For land records, the Tahasil office handles mutation and record-of-rights matters; see mutation in Odisha and record of rights. Deeds are registered at the Sub-Registrar office with jurisdiction over the property; see sale and gift deed registration and encumbrance certificates. Free legal aid is available through the District Legal Services Authority, Malkangiri; see free legal aid in Odisha.
